As low resolution as possible without hindering legibility. DOS text characters are 1-bit rasters, often employing 1×1-pixel features and dithering which is destroyed by any downscaling algorithm. The smiley-face border for example would be indiscernible at any resolution lower than the current.

To demonstrate what the AIDS payload screen looks like, conveying the startling and taunting nature of the virus in ways words alone cannot convey
