Summary

Description Aircraft shelters at the former Marine Corps Air Station Ewa, Hawaii. As a reaction to the proven vulnerability of exposed aircraft, these revetments were erected in 1942 to provide protection 'for carrier based planes', according to the drawings dated 25 April 1942. This grouping is by far the largest grouping of revetment of any kind still extant in the Pacific area. In addition, they are significant because these revetments are the only known examples of this type of revetment in the Pacific and are a distinctive construction type.
