Français : Armes des seigneuries de Vouvant, Mervent et Mouilleron données avant 1524/34. Ces armes étaient décrites comme suit dans un ouvrage réalisé entre 1524 et 1534 par Jean de Baudreuil pour Louis II d'Orléans-Longueville : « ung escu burelé d'argent et d'azur à deux serpents de gueulles ». Le fond burelé d'argent et d'azur fait directement référence à la possession de la seigneurie de Vouvant par la famille de Lusignan. La présence de deux serpents qui se font face est à rapprocher de la légende de Mélusine à laquelle l'auteur de l'ouvrage fait référence : terres données « [...] par Melusine a fon filz Geoffroy a la grand dent qui est inhume en l'Eglise dudit Vouvans. ». |
