English: Wayang figure representing Twalen
Nederlands: Schaduwfiguur. Dit is de onhandig clownsbediende Twalen. Zijn naam betekent de oude. Hij brengt geluk en wordt bijna als goddelijk beschouwd. Hij is de zoon van Shiva/Siwa, die hem deed ontstaan uit zijn eigen energie en hem naar de aarde stuurde als een eerlijke, simpele en dikbuikige bediende van de held. Hij overeet zich soms. Hij is zwak, maar met een goed verstand. Hij is intelligent en grappig. Hij houdt van vrouwen, maar is telkens bezorgd om wat zijn eigen jonge vrouw doet als hij van huis weg is, met zijn meester. Hij vertaalt het verhaal, is een geestelijke gids en clown en is zeer populair bij het publiek. Merdah is zijn zoon.
