Description
English: Dan This wooden sculpture beside the River Wye commemorates the event in 1898 when Edward Elgar was walking with Dr George Robertson Sinclair, organist at the cathedral, when the latter's bulldog, Dan, fell in the river. The event and the rescue are said to be the inspiration behind Variation No. 11 of Elgar's famous work "Variation on an Original Theme".
