Description

O Convento de San Domingos de Bonaval é un antigo convento dominico do século XIII cunha fábrica composta de elementos góticos, barrocos e neoclásicos.

A triple escaleira helicoidal Destaca no seu interior a extraordinaria escaleira tripla de caracol helicoidal dos séculos XVII e XVIII, obra tamén do arquitecto Domingo de Andrade. Componse de tres espirais independentes. O estudoso Ríos Miramontes relacionouna coa que se atopa no francés Castelo de Chambord. No mesmo espazo desenvólvense tres ramplas independentes, que conducen a diferentes pisos; só unha delas chega ao miradoiro. Os pasos da escaleira están feitos dunha peza enteira, encravándose por un nervio exterior sen necesidade de encaixar no muro nin unirse uns os outros.

Foi restaurada por Xosé Cerviño García, o Mestre Cerviño.

O antigo convento e a actual sede do Museo do Pobo Galego.

A horta conventual e o cemiterio anexo transformáronse a finais do século XX nun amplo e tranquilo parque público.
