Флаг представляет собой прямоугольное полотнище из трёх цветов, с изображением части герба Сунженского муниципального района в центре и орнаментом с левой стороны.

В верхней части флага расположена полоса жёлтого цвета, что символизирует собой солнце. Жёлтый цвет, цвет созидательной энергии, представляет собой жизненную силу, страсть, храбрость и вечную молодость. По центру проходит более широкая полоса белого цвета. Что означает чистоту помыслов, преданность традициям и веру в светлое будущее. Нижняя часть флага выполнена в зелёном цвете, который символизирует собой цвет ислама, плодородия, природы и юности. В центре изображена часть герба Сунженского муниципального района в золотом цвете, символизирующая дух района и обозначающая, что район живёт и процветает, осознавая то, что он является частью этого большого мира. В левой части флага расположен орнамент являющийся символом неразрывной связи с традициями предков и памяти о прошлом. Отношение ширины флага к его длине 2:3.
