Summary

Description
English: Former RAF Bowes Moor. RAF Bowes Moor was used in the 1940s to store mustard gas. It was burnt off after the end of the war but some may have leached into the soil. Hence the sign. It is planned in January 2008 to test the soil for such contamination with a view to development of the site. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wear/7161401.stm.
