Parsons’ Polygon in Blackett Street, Newcastle upon Tyne is a terracotta obelisk designed by David Hamilton to commemorate Charles Parsons (1854–1931), the engineer who in 1894 designed the Turbinia, the first steam turbine-powered vessel, which with a top speed of 35 knots was at that time the fastest ship in the world
