Making a welcome return to the UK, ‘Nellie’ was previously known to UK enthusiasts as ‘No Guts, No Glory’ and was part of the Duxford based Fighter Collection.
She is now operated by Air Leasing at Sywell and after her arrival earlier in 2018 she was quickly repainted in a 492nd Fighter Squadron scheme. The 492nd currently operates the F-15E Eagle from RAF Lakenheath, so it is a locally appropriate scheme for the returning warbird to have.
Two separate P-47 restorations have used parts from P-47D ’45-49192’ (c/n 399-55731) which crashed on take-off back in 1980 when registered as N47DD. Both airframes now claim that identity and both are resident in the UK! The other being on permanent display in the American Air Museum at Duxford.
Whatever her heritage, it’s great to see her again and she looks gorgeous as she departs from the 2018 Cosford Airshow.
