Summary

Description
English: In 1991, independent filmmaker Chel White completed a 4-minute animated film using a photocopy machine to generate all of the images. Titled "Choreography for Copy Machine (Photocopy Cha Cha)”, it is generally considered the first noteworthy animated film to utilize this technique. This behind the scenes photograph shows the customized technical set up Chel White created to maximize the image detail by adding external lights that go beyond the light of the machine's built-in scanner. In addition to four side lights (three of which are pictured), there is a top light positioned behind a sheet of frosted glass that allows for the silhouettes of people and objects to be visible. The person being animated would press their face on the glass platen, then sequentially change position with each scan.
