Français : Ce monument remarquable a été examiné avec soin en 1830, par une commission de la société historique établie à Providence, ville natale de Fauteur de cet ouvrage, dans l'Etat avoisinant de Rhode-Island.

Français : Plusieurs monuments et inscriptions lapidaires ont été trouvés, non-seulement sur les côtes occidentales du Groënland, mais aussi sur les cotes de la Nouvelle-Angleterre, qui confirment les Sagas relatifs aux découvertes faites par les Scandinaves dans le continent de FAmérique du Nord pendant les 10c et 11c siècles. Les plus curieux sont, sans contredit, le rochersitué sur lesbords de la rivière Cohannet, ou Taunton river, dans le comté de Bristol, Etat de Massachusetts, sousles 41°45'50" latitude au Nord, et l'inscription qu'on y trouve.
