I also doubt that this is from 1942. Yes, they had color photography back then, such as this photo from 1911: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e3/Rgb-compose-Alim_Khan.jpg but the quality of the welding image is like what I'd get out of a 100-$200 digital camera TODAY.
