- "Brazil on" comma after Brazil.
- "The 32-team tournament" could you just add a sentence about the 32 teams qualifying through their respective football organisation's qualifying?
- "with 1.013 billion watching" maybe "more than a billion people" (it's an estimate, after all)
- "one on one with Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer," but failed...
- "found himself one on one" again, odd, how does a non-expert deal with this phrase?
- I have linked one-on-one. Does that help? — Amakuru (talk) 20:03, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- "shot on goal went wide of the goal" goal goal?
- "Then, on 71 minutes" no need for Then..
- "as a substitute shortly" link.
- "collected André Schürrle's cross from" overlinked.
- Link cross though!
- Link volley.
- "volleying left-footed shot" a?
- "German victory" victory for Germany?
- "their fourth World Cup title" link List of FIFA World Cup finals?
- "awarded the Golden Boot as FIFA's outstanding player of the tournament" thought that just meant he scored the most goals?
- "realisation of a goal which" unfortunate overloading of "goal" here.
- "His Argentina counterpart" Argentine?
That's the lead done. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 18:34, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- "The 32nd and final spot was" you haven't mentioned who qualified in the previous 31 slots.
- "playing one another once" maybe "each other once"?
- "were Spain, who" link.
- "tournaments having" comma.
- "Argentina had two titles" link Arg.
- "from 1978 a" strange pipe. maybe "in 1978" instead.
- "Cup.[7] This included the 1986" merge.
- "Germany had gone on to lose in" Germany lost in...
- " a friendly match" link friendly.
- "the Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho in Rio" no need for italics.
- Suggest Uruguay v Brazil (1950 FIFA World Cup) is moved appropriately, not a GA need, but I trust you to fix this anomaly.
- It's worth bearing in mind that this match was not a final in the traditional sense - that particular world cup was held as a simple league format rather than a knockout, and it was only by fortuitous coincidence that the top two teams happened to be playing each other for the title in the final game. I have amended the link in the article away from the misnomered redirect. — Amakuru (talk) 20:03, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- "Guinness World Records state that the official crowd for the game was 173,850, but note that with illegal entrants included, who were not recorded, the figure could have been as high as 210,000.[16] T" that's a footnote, it's not relevant to this article.
- "The match ball ... featured a variation " was a variation?
- " It was the third special ball for FIFA World Cup final matches, after the +Teamgeist Berlin (2006) and the Jo'bulani (2010)." unref.
That's me at the "Route to the final" section. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 18:43, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: all looked at so far, done or commented upon, I believe. — Amakuru (talk) 20:03, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
more
- (from before: "It was the third..." not referenced).
- "the world cup" even in this usage, I would expect it to be World Cup.
- "a penalty on 10 " more specific football penalty link here.
- "in injury time " first-half injury time?
- Link cross.
- "half, Mario Götze opened" overlinked, no need to repeat first name.
- "was shown a red card in the 37th minute after" we've just mentioned a half-time lead so this seems out of order.
- You link shot but not pass?
- "when substitute Miroslav" link sub.
- "helped" somewhat euphemistic, did he head it, kick it, volley it, chip it, pass it??
- "with the US also going" relevance?
- "with a volley in injury" link.
- " a free-kick by" link.
- "tournament hosts Brazil in their" overlinked.
- "The took the" They?
- BBC Sport in prose but BBC Sport in the refs.
- Oh man, this BBC Sport business is giving me a headache. OK, it's now all unitalicised here. 14:02, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- Perhaps finish the Germany RTTF section with "Germany progressed to their Xth final, and their first since Y"?
- "for Bosnia with" & Herz?
- "of The Guardian described Iran" overlinked.
- "the Estádio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre. Messi" both overlinked.
- "scoring on 3 minutes, scoring" repetitive.
- free kick or free-kick??
- Similar ending to Arg section to cap it with "progressing to the final" style sentence.
- "from Italy, was" no need to link.
- "charge of the Spain–Netherlands and Nigeria–" all overlinked.
- "–Belgium quarter-final" overlinked.
- "UEFA Euro 2012 and the" ditto.
- "final loss, as a result" the loss wasn't as a result of the rivalry, switch round?
- " a last-minute change" late change?
- "started with the identical team to that which started" started started...
- "when Marcos Rojo fouled" overlinked.
- "but it went" but the ball went.
- "but Pablo Zabaleta dispossessed" overlinked, no need for Pablo.
- "minute, Ezequiel Lavezzi found" likewise, no need for Ezequiel.
- "injury he'd sustained" avoid contractions.
- " yellow card" link to Penalty card#Yellow card.
- "had a shot through a Martín Demichelis header" an opportunity to score (rather than a shot)?
- "by a break upfield" overlinked.
- I haven't specifically linked "break" before. I'd have thought a fresh link here is useful, even I've already linked the Glossary_of_association_football_terms article before? — Amakuru (talk) 14:10, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- Link lob.
- "over Manuel Neuer went" overlinked, -Manuel.
- "mistake by Mats Hummels in" same.
- "he hadn't been" no contractions.
- "when Mario Götze scored" overlinked. Again.
- "dribbled" link.
- "final, despite playing only the final" final/final, maybe second one can be "last"?
- "for what they" surely "for whom they"?
- "subsequent 2018 World Cup in " overlinked.
- Not sure those "see also" are needed?
- Ref 79 should probably have a spaced en-dash rather than the odd-spaced hyphen there.
- Ref 81, could link YouTube, is this using the {{Cite AV media}} template properly?
- RSSSF needs consistent format in the refs.
- Check for and remove SHOUTING, e.g. LOOK in ref 68 (which also could use a publisher of CBS instead of that current cbssports.com)
That's all I have for now. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 11:11, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- @The Rambling Man: - I think I've looked at all your points, with just one query above. Cheers — Amakuru (talk) 14:53, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
- Well overlinking is not a GA criterion so I'm duty-bound to overlook that! So I'm passing now. Cheers. The Rambling Man (Keep wearing the mask...) 14:57, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
