Elaine Savory is Emeritus Professor of Literary Studies and Environmental Studies at The New School's Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts in New York City.[1] Savory has taught at multiple universities worldwide, including the University of Ghana, the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, the University of Ibadan, and New York University. She has served as visiting scholar/fellow at the Institute for Research on Women at Rutgers University and the University of Baroda.[2] Her academic writing has focused primary on Caribbean and African literature, including Caribbean writer Jean Rhys; her work has also discussed postcolonial ecocriticism and environmental humanities.[3][4][5] Her poetry collection flame tree time was published in the Sandberry Press series.[6][7] She has just completed[when?] a memoir and a long essay on the breadfruit (botany, history and presence in human culture).[8]
Education[edit]
Savory earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and American literature, as well as a Master of Philosophy in world literature from the University of Leeds. She then received a Doctor of Philosophy in postcolonial literature from the University of the West Indies.[1]
