The KL Golden Triangle is Kuala Lumpur's flagship megaproject to expand its Central Business District to become a premier global business hub. Originally focused around the KLCC Precinct and Bukit Bintang, the city's epicentre has recently extended to the Tun Razak Exchange Precinct as the new financial district, and the Merdeka 118 Precinct with the world's second tallest building. All three Precincts are connected through the new MRT Kajang Line and MRT Putrajaya Line, with stops at Persiaran KLCC MRT Station, Tun Razak Exchange MRT Station, and Merdeka MRT Station.

KLCC Precinct[edit]

Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) is a multipurpose development area in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. KLCC refers to the area within and surrounding the KLCC Park but the term has also been widely used by buildings nearby to the vicinity.

Designed to be a city within a city, the 100-acre site hosts the tallest twin buildings in the world, the fourth tallest hotel in the world, a shopping mall, office buildings and several hotels. A public park and a mosque have also been built in the area and are open to everyone. Areas within KLCC is cooled via district cooling located on the property. The whole precinct was developed by KLCC Property Holdings Berhad (KLCCP) of the KLCC Group of Companies, a property investment arm of Petronas.

Tun Razak Exchange Precinct[edit]

The Tun Razak Exchange, is a 70-acre development by Ministry of Finance Malaysia (MOF) in the heart of Kuala Lumpur for international finance and business. The development was named after the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, due to its location along Jalan Tun Razak. TRX is a strategic enabler of the Malaysian government's Economic Transformation Programme (ETP).

The master plan includes a total of 26 buildings and over 21 million ft2 of Gross Floor Area (GFA) spread across the office, residential, hotel, retail, F&B and cultural offerings.

The project has a development period of 15 years to be completed in phases with the initial Phase 1 slated for completion in 2017/2018.

TRX's landmark building is The Exchange 106, currently the third tallest skyscraper in Malaysia, and was the second tallest upon completion.

Merdeka 118 Precinct[edit]

Merdeka 118 Precinct

Merdeka 118, formerly known as Menara Warisan Merdeka, KL 118 and PNB 118, is a 118-story megatall skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At 678.9 m (2,227 ft) tall, it is the second-tallest building and structure in the world, only behind the Burj Khalifa at 828 m (2,717 ft).

The building's name, Merdeka, which means "independence" in Malay, is inspired by its proximity to Stadium Merdeka. The spire of the building was completed in December 2022, which marked its final height of 678.9 m (2,227 ft) above ground and 700.9 m (2,300 ft) above sea level.

It is the tallest building in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. It surpassed the 453.6 m (1,488 ft) Exchange 106 to become the tallest building in Malaysia and surpassed the 461.2 m (1,513 ft) Landmark 81 to become the tallest building in Southeast Asia. The building will also be the first in Malaysia to receive a triple platinum rating from worldwide sustainability certifications, including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

The Merdeka 118 (the whole precinct's) development is a 19 acres (7.7 ha) land funded by Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), with a budget of RM5 billion. When completed in 2023, the tower became the tallest building in Malaysia. It was constructed in three phases and consists of 400,000 square metres (4,300,000 square feet) of residential, hotel and commercial space.

MRT Lines[edit]

MRT Putrajaya Line

The MRT Putrajaya Line (PYL), also known as MRT 2, is the second Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Klang Valley, Malaysia, and the third fully automated and driverless rail system in the country. It was previously known as the MRT Sungai Buloh–Serdang–Putrajaya Line (SSP Line). The line stretches from Kwasa Damansara to Putrajaya and runs through densely populated areas such as Sri Damansara, Kepong, Batu, Jalan Ipoh, Sentul, Kampung Baru, Jalan Tun Razak, KLCC, Tun Razak Exchange, Kuchai Lama, Seri Kembangan and Cyberjaya.

Phase 1 operations of the line between Kwasa Damansara and Kampung Batu commenced on 16 June 2022. While the Phase 2 which covers the remaining of the line including the underground stretch was opened on 16 March 2023.

The line is numbered 12 and coloured yellow on official transit maps.

The line was developed and is owned by MRT Corp but operated as part of the Rapid KL network by Rapid Rail. It also forms part of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System.

The line, totalling 57.7 km (35 miles 68 chains) in length, includes 5.5 km (3.4 mi) annexed from the MRT Kajang Line, making it the longest metro line in Malaysia. The line includes a 13.5 km (8.4 mi) underground section. A total of 37 stations, 11 of them underground, were built.

The MRT Kajang line (KGL), previously known as the Sungai Buloh–Kajang line (SBK), is a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line servicing the Klang Valley, Malaysia. It is the second fully automated and driverless rail system in the Klang Valley region after the LRT Kelana Jaya Line. Owned by MRT Corp and operated as part of the RapidKL system by Rapid Rail, it forms part of the Klang Valley Integrated Transit System. The line is numbered 9 and coloured green on official transit maps.

It is one of three planned MRT rail lines under the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit Project by MRT Corp. Phase 1 operations between Sungai Buloh and Semantan commenced service on 16 December 2016. Phase 2 operations between Muzium Negara and Kajang was opened on 17 July 2017, as a free shuttle service, by former Malaysian Prime Minister, Dato' Seri Najib Tun Razak in a ceremony at the Tun Razak Exchange station. Full revenue service between Sungai Buloh and Kajang began the following day.
