Mikael Shields is the co-founder and CEO of Acamar Films.^[1]^[2]^[3]. He is best known for developing and producing^[4] the multi-award-winning animated series Bing, based on the books by Ted Dewan^[5]^[6]^[7]^[8]^[9]^[10]

Prior to founding Acamar Films, Shields held positions at the BBC^[11] as well as EVA Entertainment^[12] where he was involved in the development of a range of live-action and animation productions.^[13] He also held roles at Atom Films^[14]^[15] and Ealing Studios^[16]^[17]. He has been involved with animated productions including Rex the Runt^[18], Pond Life^[19], and Hilltop Hospital^[20]. He is an alumni of The University of Glasgow.^[21]

Bing[edit]

In searching for a new children's property to develop, Shields considered 600 projects including Peppa Pig and The Gruffalo^[22]. The focus on the everyday attracted Shields to Bing^[23] as did the property's potential to support the emotional resilience of young children.^[24] Development for Bing began in 2004^[25]. Shields approached actor Mark Rylance to provide the voice of the character Flop after seeing him perform in the play Jerusalem.^[26] ^[27]Bing premiered on CBeebies on June 9th, 2014.^[28] 105 episodes of Bing have been produced and broadcast.^[29]
