From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr. Theodore 'Ted' DeWeese is the Dean of the Medical Faculty at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Chief Executive Officer of Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. DeWeese is also the Sidney Kimmel Professor of Radiation Oncology and Molecular Radiation Sciences and is a professor of urology and oncology[1]. As dean and CEO, Dr. DeWeese oversees the School of Medicine and The Johns Hopkins Health System Corporation, which includes 6 hospitals and many primary care group practices.

Education[edit]

DeWeese was raised in Denver, Colorado. After finishing high school, he worked at a Ford dealership for several years. DeWeese then decided to pursue a college degree - the first in his family to do so. After initially working towards a business degree, DeWeese eventually switched his major and graduated with a chemistry degree from the Metropolitan State University of Denver[2].

In 1994, Dr. DeWeese earned his M.D. from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Afterwards, he went to the Johns Hopkins Hospital for his residency, where he served as chief resident and performed a laboratory research fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center and the James Buchanan Brady Urological Institute[1].

Career[edit]

In July 2022, DeWeese was named the interim dean, following the retirement of Paul B. Rothman[3]. Then, DeWeese was appointed to the role permanently in December 2023[4].
