Download citation[edit]

Any way of making a downloadable version of the citation for software such as EndNote, COiNS, or Zotero?

Edit Request - Lowercase "The" in Publisher bullet[edit]

 Not done. The phrase "The Free Encyclopedia" is actually transcluded from MediaWiki:Sitesubtitle rather than being directly written on this page. Changing that page would change it for every use, including in all the citation style examples. The capitalisation has remained unchanged at least since that MediaWiki page was created in 2004, so I don't think it should be changed without discussion first (also I'm not certain that I'd agree with changing it to lowercase). If you still think it should be changed, I'd recommend starting a discussion at MediaWiki talk:Sitesubtitle but as that is likely to be an very lightly watched page (it has had exactly two edits) it would be a good idea to link to the discussion from here, at Wikipedia:MediaWiki messages, Wikipedia talk:Citing Wikipedia and possibly one of the village pump pages. MLA citation should follow 7th ed.[edit]

According to the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (7th ed.), in effect since April 2009, this should be something more like:

COinS problem[edit]

This feature's COinS metadata is not found by tools such as the OpenURL Referrer extension for Firefox. The extension inserts a user-defined string into the span with class="Z3988" and makes it a link to a user-defined library service. Wikipedia is preventing that link from displaying, by styling an otherwise-redundant inner span, containing only a non-breaking space, as display:none. Why are we making an "empty" (white-space-only) span not display?

Please change:

<span style="display: none;">&nbsp;</span>

to:

&nbsp;

Hmm, interesting though. I thought clients were supposed to replace or add to the contents of the Z3988 span, why is it getting confused by a nested span ? Seems perfectly valid to me. The extension is working for me; on every one of Wikipedia's instances of COinS I've tried, except this one. For example, one of the COinS on Bob Brettle has, when viewed using the extension, the source:

My error console reports: "No chrome package registered for chrome://openurlref/content/options.xul" for https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4150/ with FF 3.6.8. So it seems the package is bust. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 16:28, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm now using Zotero, which had no problem, but I think I found the problem, the aucorp field was broken. That still leaves me with a broken openurl referrer extension of course, so I cannot be sure. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 16:54, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
AIUI, Zotero screen-scrapes, so it will show a positive result whatever the COinS span is doing. Whatever change you have made, the Firefox extension still finds a COinS span in all Wikipedia pages I've tried , except for those generate using Cite_text. No, it specifically read the coins tag. It notes that in it's tooltips. There is nothing more that I can do here for now I fear. We tried your suggestion, you said that it still wasn't working. I have therefore restored the hidden span (which I note is also present in all other Coins HTML output of the citation templates). As such there is no request here anymore that anyone can fulfill. Please make an actual request as to how the MediaWiki page should be changed, or find somebody who can figure this out for you. Harvard JOLT style[edit]

The "Bluebook: Harvard JOLT style" section should have the wikilink changed, since the Wikilink destination anchor section was removed from Bluebook five years ago – it should probably link to Wikipedia:Citing Wikipedia#Citation to Wikipedia instead.

Also, it seems like the canonical URL for that entry here is inconsistent – it's not linking to the revision since it's missing the oldid={{REVISIONID}} parameter. The cannonicalurl portion should be 

{{canonicalurl:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|oldid={{REVISIONID}}}}

@Xaosflux: Apologies—I didn’t know we don’t normally redirect MediaWiki messages. I was led here while studying WP:COinS; proposing this redirect seemed more expedient than editing all of the pages that link here. Even though we don’t normally redirect MediaWiki messages, this case might be special because we’d be creating a redirect for a page move. When a MediaWiki page is "deleted" it reverts to the system default message, this page is different as it is longer expected to be getting called. What is actually leading editors or readers to this page? No problem. I was reading this version of Wikipedia:COinS, which said that
“So far COinS have been added to: ... MediaWiki:Citethispage-content – generated when you click Cite this article; contains information for citing Wikipedia itself in other documents”
and I wanted to find out what that content was. I tracked down the intended target (MediaWiki:Citethispage-content), but instead of editing Wikipedia:COinS, I intended to edit the current target (MediaWiki:Citethispage-content) because Wikipedia:COinS wasn’t the only page linking here.  Not done - The best way to fix this is to fix the other pages, I'll look at doing a bot clean up run for this.
