During this period of famine, all the cattle and all the land, and at last the Egyptians themselves, become the property of Pharaoh. Jacob's last seventeen years are spent in tranquility in Egypt. Shortly before his death he makes Joseph take an oath that Joseph will bury him with his fathers.
