Problems with the numbers (source?)[edit]

I have some doubts about the factuality of the power output figures, though I cannot be sure. My father drove a 1982 Skoda 120 model (four gears, and over a 60 hp powerplant) up until in 1986 buying a brand new Skoda 130 or 135 that had only 52 hp as far as I can remember. The quality of sound proofing and the engine output were down, and the fifth gear was introduced so that overtaking wouldn't be so much of a hassle due to the reduced power output, but on Finnish roads it was terrible, as the speed limit was mostly 100 kph and at that speed the engine couldn't cope, meaning you needed to shift gears at around 100 kph either up or down. Good things were the handling with a full laden front trunk, as my father drove like a madman, and the bottleneck at 100 kph meant he drove 120 kph at fifth rather than 90 kph at fourth gear. I remember the 120 model being much quieter, as I always rode in the back, with the engine screaming right behind me. So if anyone could doublecheck the power ratings, that would be nice. The Skoda and everything to go with it were gone by 1993 when my father switched to French cars. Comparing a 1970/80's designed Skoda to a Porche 911 seems far-fetched, though, even if it comes from Autocar(?); undoubtedly same kind of rugged driving characteristics and back-heavy, but underpowered. 17:11, 6 April, 2008 (UTC)

I think numbers are OK. Are you sure that 1986 model was 130? Because 52hp looks like 1.2 engine that was in Skoda 125L (120 with 5-speed gearbox). 1982 was maybe LS or GLS version - Luxury model with different head and pistons for bigger compression (needed 95 octan fuel). And, I'm not sure with GLS, but some 742's before facelift (1984) had shorter gearing. Those things can explain problems with noise and performance.
