Suggestion[edit]

The "Club" column does not distinguish between Major Leaguers and minor leaguers. Perhaps use a * to denote players who played in the Major Leagues in 2012? --BlueMoonlet (t/c) 05:20, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Questions[edit]

The league thing brought up some issues we should decide upon:

  1. When listing a league, do we say MLB, or AL/NL? NPB, or CL/PL?
  2. How do we differentiate MiLB players from MLB? Simply listing their MLB affiliate makes it look like they were in MLB.
  3. Is it best to list 2012 teams or 2013?

I've been going with MLB and NPB rather than the divisions... and listing the team they are currently affiliated with... Not sure what to do with the minor leaguers yet... I'd rather list them as MLB cause listing all the minor league teams instead would be more confusing.. perhaps after the team it could go Cincinnati Reds (minors)? Place of birth?[edit]

I think a lot of people must have had the same thought as me: How can Spain and Italy, for example, have competitive teams? Then clicking on the players' names, I discovered that they were almost all born in the U.S., Venezuela, Canada, etc., which makes sense because otherwise they couldn't compete. On the other hand, it's also extremely artificial to have teams like that. I think it would be very informative for readers to systematically include place of birth in the rosters, so they'll have a sense of what's really going on with these teams. That could be interesting, though it doesn't always tell the whole story. Bert Blyleven, for example, was born in the Netherlands but grew up in the U.S. Where people grew up, on the other hand, is much harder to state objectively. I'm the same person as 96.46 above. Place of birth I think is very objective, and it's permanent rather than temporary. Date and place of birth are standard in athlete bios at the Olympics. (See [1] for example on the website of the London Olympics.) The WBC doesn't provide that information, but I wonder if that's because they're trying to hide the fact that, for example, their "Italy" and "Spain" teams are a bit of a sham. 64.140.121.87 (talk) 20:50, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article inclusion[edit]

I heard about Jurickson Profar being selected for the Netherlands. Did someone have to be cut to get him included on the roster? If someone did, I think that person should be included in the article, but not on the template. It may be worth having all players listed if they were on the team at any time during the tournament. If they were injured or cut during tournament play, that can be noted. Again, people who actually showed up in uniform during the tournament, so people like Mark Teixeira or Russel Martin would not count, but a guy like David Wright, who is now out for the rest of the tournament, should. Recent change - addition of flags[edit]

Whomever has been changing the rosters lately.. the addition of the flag icons is improper... we had a big discussion on those and it was decided that it was against policy to include them in this case so they were all removed. You shouldn't be putting them back in without discussion.. also the place of birth section that has been added seems unnecessary to me. Spanneraol (talk) 18:59, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
