- RB signifies ReBated rim, meaning the case head (where the extractor groove islocated) is smaller in diameter than the body of the cartridge, unlike most cartridges, which have case head diameters the same or greater than the case body diameter. It isn't common, but there are a few others like this. The .50AE pistol catridge (Desert Eagle, etc) uses a rebated rim, am I think the German MK108 30mm autocannon of WWII used one to facilitate its APIB function. I think US 40mm grenade carttridges use them. I am sure there are others I can't recall.

8mm?[edit]
The catridge is called an 8mm but the info box says the bullet diameter is 8.36mm. That's a pretty significant difference. Either the designation is almost 4/10ths of a millimeter off, and is just a rough designation (like say, 7.92mm, which is called "8mm" but is only .08mm different, as opposed to .36mm different), or someone has messed up and put down the diameter of the case where they were supposed to enter the bullet diameter. Perhaps this should be clarified in the text so readers don't have to wonder. In addition, I beleive the title of the page page ought to be "8x59mmRB". I don't think "Rb" is the standard and correct usage, but I don't swear on it. Also "a dug up 8mm Breda cartridge" isn't really the best phrasing. "An 8mm Breda cartidge excavated from the ground" is more suitable. Or just "unearthed" instead of "dug up". Not formal enough. But I guess I could have just fixed it myself by now. Never mind.
