The actual name means St John OF Renti (or Renti's St John). Rentis was the landlord the area was named after. St John (Agios Ioannis) is the name of the church the town is named after. Hence it's St John Of Rentis. In Greek "of Rentis" is simply "Renti" as "Renti" is the genitive case of "Rentis". Google maps has it wrong. Street signs have it wrong. People living there also often have it wrong. The official list of the ministry has it right - as it must. All associated entries or references containing "Rentis" must hence be switched to "Renti" for consistency (unless of course they refer to the land owner Rentis himself and not the area/municipality/town containing his name).   • Support per the sources already present in the article. It took a while to find one that is in English, but once I did, they support the "Renti" spelling.[1][2] Bear in mind that the operative thing is to find the source with the English (or at least Roman alphabet) rendering of the name, to avoid transliteration issues. —C.Fred (talk) 19:00, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Had I known an English source (or one with the names in the Latin alphabet) was needed, I would have searched for one, that as you mentioned is not as easy to find - which does not surprise me.
    Please also check my request to move/rename the page for "Nikaia-Agios Ioannis Rentis".
    Again, the same sources apply as Nikaia and Ag. Ioannis Renti are two municipalities that were joined into one city (hence the two-part name).
    What happens next?
    Assuming the rename is voted for, can I then proceed with correcting the spelling inside all pages referring to "Rentis"?
    Furthermore: this mistake is made in all other language wikipedia pages (I think about 18 of them). How can I ask for a rename of those pages which are in languages I do not speak? Is there an easy way to do it? Stelios21r (talk) 20:08, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @Stelios21r Assuming support for the moves, then yes, the spelling can be updated. As far as other languages...the issue becomes the spelling in their respective languages. (If it's truly an issue of genitive case, then it might be Rentis in German, where masculine nouns, get a -s on them in genitive.) —C.Fred (talk) 16:10, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    It's a transliteration issue, i.e. regarding the transliteration of the Greek word in the genitive into German - and not a translation issue, i.e. of the Greek genitive into the German genitive.
    Otherwise, the whole name would have to be translated, e.g. here it would have to be translated to "St. John of Rentis" or something of that sort (I'd rather not risk using an apostrophe incorrectly here because of the final "s").
    But my question is about how I request for a change in a page the language of which I do not know or speak. E.g. suppose there was a page for addition in German citing the example that 1+1=4. It seems unfair that I would not be able to suggest a correction to this error simply because I do not speak German. Stelios21r (talk) 18:05, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
