Glanville / Granville / Grenville[edit]

The very first version of this article, in 2006, said: "He was also known as... Alfred Grenville." That seems to have been sourced from Peter Gammond's (not "Grimmond") Oxford Companion to Popular Music - which in fact (p.583) gives the name (without explanation) as "Alfred Granville". The books by Busby and Baker, which I've added as sources, do not refer to the name, spelled either way. However, his probate record gives his name as "Alfred Peck Stevens, otherwise Alfred Glanville Vance". The "Glanville" spelling also occurs in the baptism records of at least three of his children.
