Personal life[edit]

Majda was married to Gerta Keller, the famed anti-impact-killed-the-dinosaurs geologist, some time in the 1970s, and their marriage lasted until his death. See [1] and [2].

In addition, he had two younger brothers, twins. (As mentioned by name and career in the notices PDF cited above.) One of them, George, was a professor of mathematics at OSU until his death in 2004. George co-authored two papers with his brother Andrew. The other twin, John, had majored in mathematics as an undergraduate, but switched to medicine and became an oncologist. See [3], but I know of no RS that identifies this John as Andrew's brother.
