Unless sources have been provided that he has Armenian citizenship (which I personally find unlikely, given that Russia requires everybody who naturalizes to step down from the previous citizenships), I am going to remove the category since Galstyan is not an Armenian citizen and as never competed for Armenia. The fact that he is ethnic Armenian is prominently featured in the article (in fact, before my edits it was difficult to figure out that he competes for Russia), and is reflected in the categories as well.--Ymblanter (talk) 12:49, 27 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • There was no response, the user who was edit-warring is now blocked for a month and indefinitely topic-banned from Armenian topics, nobody else expressed interest, therefore I am removing the category.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:14, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I'm late. Anyway, I happen to know someone who applies for Russian citizenship need simply apply to terminate any other citizenship, though actual termination is not required. Because Galstyan was born in Armenia, we know he is an Armenian citizen. What we don't know is if he ever terminated that citizenship. Because we have the knowledge he was an Armenian citizen at one point, I think a source showing he terminated his Armenian citizenship is needed more than a source showing he retained it. Do you agree? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 02:28, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No, I do not agree. We know he is Russian citizen because he competed for Russia. Period. Everything else needs sources (especially the statement that he is breaking Russian law by retaining Armenian citizenship).--Ymblanter (talk) 06:37, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And we know he is an Armenian citizen because he was born in Armenia. Period. And according to Russian nationality law, Galstyan broke no law.
And sometimes all requirements can be waved: http://english.pravda.ru/russia/politics/03-07-2003/3210-turkmenistan-0/

I am afraid you just do not understand Wikipedia:Verifiability. I will see whether I should ask the administrators to teach you, given that you are topic-banned.--Ymblanter (talk) 13:37, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. If removal of citizenship is mandatory, then I'd agree I'm the one who needs a source. But it's not. Termination of other citizenship is not required and Russia is so politically corrupt applying to do so may not even be required. So you need to prove he had terminated his Armenian citizenship. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 13:44, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It is mandatory, with the exception of countries which have a law not allowing removal of the citizenship (like Syria or Morocco).--Ymblanter (talk) 13:49, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Did you even read the Russian nationality law page? --TheShadowCrow (talk) 14:02, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and much earlier than you did.--Ymblanter (talk) 14:09, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You should read it again. Or just the part I quoted. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 14:36, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Let me try again. What is written there is that whoever applies for Russian citizenship must have applied for termination of their existing citizenship. The document showing they applied must be submitted at the moment of application. The proof that the citizenship has been terminated should not be submitted. (Which is understandable given the person otherwise would remain stateless). There are some countries in which such application does not actually lead to termination of the citizenship, because their laws do not provide for such termination. Armenia is not in this list. Anyway, the statement that Galstyan has an Armenian citizenship is unusual and, according to WP:Verifiability needs to be supported by reliable sources. I do not see such sources in the article.--Ymblanter (talk) 14:43, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You should look up dual citizenship and statelessness, because neither are impossible. So you are pulling your theory Galstyan terminated his Armenian status out of no where. He was born in Armenia, so we can be sure he is an Armenian citizen. But we don't know if he terminated it, which you have to verifiy. And stop bringing up my block as if it has anything to do with this. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 21:51, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You were already explained on ANI that you are topic-banned here, so that I better stop discussing the issue with you. Please find some constructive ways to contribute to Wikipedia. Thank you for understanding.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:40, 29 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
