Some proposed changes[edit]

Information to be added or removed: Request to remove link and mention and any reference to https://www.ballynahinch-castle.com with the label 'Ballynahinch Castle hotel's web site'.

Explanation of issue: The link to the website https://www.ballynahinch-castle.com is causing the Wiki page for 'Ballynahinch, County Galway' to show in the knowledge graph in search results for a 'ballynahinch castle' search query in Google search engine.

Before the link for https://www.ballynahinch-castle.com was in the 'Ballynahinch, County Galway' Wiki page, the the website https://www.ballynahinch-castle.com would show in the knowledge graph. The associated mention and link in the 'Ballynahinch, County Galway' Wiki page has given Google preference for it to show in google search results instead.

This has resulted in the https://www.ballynahinch-castle.com website losing valuable traffic for its Brand searches for Ballynahinch Castle'.

Also the https://www.ballynahinch-castle.com link has nothing to do with the 'Ballynahinch, County Galway' Wiki page and so should be removed on this basis alone.

Why do you think our brand Wikipedia should step aside for your brand? Is Wikipedia a commercial threat to you? The Banner talk 18:37, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This demonstrates the perverse result mechanism of the law of unintended consequences, in that 95.45.230.65's attempts at introducing advertising into Wikipedia by placing the Hotel's website into the article resulted in the removal of the hotel's cherished position from Google's search results, and the replacement of it with Wikipedia's own website. Although part of me feels that this mistake should stand as fair warning to be careful what you wish for, that may seem WP:POINTy to others, myself included.
I do think that if the website is to be removed, all references to the castle being a hotel should be removed as well, particularly it being mentioned as "a high-end hotel with a focus on fly fishing for salmon." How do other editors feel about this?  Spintendo  21:04, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We even might have a look at Ballynahinch Castle. The Banner talk 00:38, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Done I've omitted mention of the hotel (but not the castle itself, which is still mentioned) from the article. The website was also omitted.  Spintendo  20:17, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
