Q: Why does the infobox do not list either a Russian or Ukrainian victory?
A: The overall result of the battle is complicated, as discussed in the analysis and aftermath sections. From purely a tactical/technical point of view, the overall result of the clash was a Russian victory, as Russia eventually drove out the Ukrainian defenders and captured the airport. However, the initial Russian attack (on the battle's first day) was a major failure and defeat. Several experts have stated that this initial failure was far more important than the eventual Russian capture of the airport on the second day, and the operation a failure for Russia.

Q: If experts describe the battle as a failure for Russia, why is it not listed as 'Ukrainian victory'?
A: While the battle might have been a strategic failure for Russia, they did capture the airport and held it for an extended period of time. Thus, the battle cannot be considered a full Ukrainian success either.

Q: Regardless, Russia eventually withdrew from the area and Ukraine retook the location. Should that not count as victory?
A: This article talks specifically about the military engagement between Russian and Ukrainian forces between 24-25 February. The later events, including the Russian retreat, have to be considered part of other battles.
