Most residents work in Tehran?[edit]

I find that unlikely, considering that Tehran is more than 400 miles from Benis. Perhaps the article is supposed to say Tabriz, which is only 40 miles from Benis? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.24.232.77 (talk) 05:21, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

KnowYourMeme[edit]

Sigehelmus how is that page a reliable source? Being viewed widely does not make the site/page a reliable source. Galobtter (pingó mió) 06:59, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Galobtter: I was actually about to reinforce the passage with a reference to the page of the meme's "mother", Spurdo. It is a very old and well attested and popular entry, "Benis" is just a phrase by Spurdo and categorized as a "sub-meme". Is that enough? I haven't gone through all of the gallery, but the Benis entry shows the village (the connection has been shown in many memes across the internet you can find, for example Reddit).--~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 07:05, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Content needs to be verifiable to reliable sources. Neither Reddit nor an unconfirmed KnowYourMeme entry is a reliable source (see discussion here; even a confirmed entry is probably not a reliable source) Galobtter (pingó mió) 07:14, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Galobtter: You're right, although I would mote that particular discussion you linked is from 2010; KYM is a much more popular and refined site now than it was nearly nine years ago. In this case is the Spurdo article itself sufficient? In any case, the name of this otherwise forgettable village has been targeted and its page visited for years because of the meme, with a long edit history to boot. I believe it should be acknowledged somehow, and KYM seems a reasonable foundation for it.-~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 07:24, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The Spurdo article hardly even mentions Benis. This article is about the village, not a meme or the Wikipedia page, so there is no need to include or acknowledge the meme; if there are no reliable sources talking about the meme then it shouldn't be included in the article. I'm reverting my edit for now then. I will continue to search, but what do you think of at least a hatnote for what likely 99% of visitors to this page would encounter it for? I'm not sure how exactly it would be worded, but that is what I started with in my first edits.--~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 07:33, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, what article would the hatnote point to? Galobtter (pingó mió) 07:57, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Galobtter: It seems "Spurdo" appears only twice on the wiki: Gondola (disambiguation) (a sub-meme of Spurdo itself) and Imageboard. I don't know if it itself deserves its own article or section - it is apparently based ultimately on the Pedobear meme, that article seems very outdated btw - but I suppose for now something like "For the Internet meme, see Imageboards." It's odd after all these years that Spurdo is only passing entwined twice in this entire site, when it's been quite popular in many places.--~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 08:10, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please, do not add such irrelevant content again unless independent reliable sources are given which discuss the "meme" in the context of the village or vice versa. Neodop (talk) 15:25, 29 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
