Original Version Ending[edit]

As I've read through the previous edits, I realized that some people are more familiar with the ending that says "Here lies one big big man." These aren't however the original lyrics that Jimmy Dean intended for the song. The original lyrics say "Here lies one hell of a man" and therefore, I have included those lyrics in the opening paragraph of this Article. There is a later reference stating why some versions include one or the other, and this should suffice. Jaredbelch 04:37, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

'Three Men and a Tenor' also did a faboulous recording of this, and they do it live. They use the original lyric's with "hell of a man".

I've never head the "hell of a man" version, but I think "Big Big Man" fits the song better. 98.16.149.161 (talk) 06:59, 3 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Parodies[edit]

Wasn't there a parody advertising campaign by Sainsburys in the UK within the last couple of years? It featured a reciept and was about "Little Tiny Bill". Check this link out to see what I mean. I've never edited a Wikipedia article before hence including this here and not directly in the parody section. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwOCFcy_QiQ Burlster 10:18, 07 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was a parody called "Small Sad Sam" about a puny and cowardly man. Kostaki mou (talk) 20:15, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cover/Parodie/Other[edit]

Lorne Greene's Ringo (song) is an identical melody No1 three years later.  Piandao  21:11, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I remember that MadTV did a parody in March 1999 called "Honeydipper Dan" about a much larger man who dug the accumulated feces out of outhouses by removing the top and using a long ladle, but I'm not so sure about finding a reliable source for this. Julyo (talk) 23:49, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Race?[edit]

I never thought about it until I heard it for the first time in years on the radio, but is Big John's race known? It seems to describe the iconic black, soft-spoken giant man of the south that is something of a trope. Thoughts? 66.58.230.60 (talk) 22:03, 30 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

John Buck[edit]

Major League Baseball catcher John Buck used this as his walk up song for a time when he was with the Kansas City Royals. I would sing along with it every time. That is how I remember. Bwwolz86 (talk) 02:33, 22 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
