Hi there!

My name is Michael Williams. I am a senior at Brown University and chair of Brownbrokers, the organization I am attempting to create a wikipedia page for.

We are 75 years old and important in the musical theatre community nationally and I wanted us to be searchable on wikipedia.

We are part of the Brown Theatre Department and thus I added a link to the Department's Brownbrokers website. I believe this is causing the problems.

If this is an issue I can remove the link. Let me know what I should do!

Michael

The link is not the issue but the fact that you simply copied the text from your university's website that is copyrighted. Please rewrite the text in your own words so it differs from the original. For reason of copyright we cannot accept the current version. De728631 (talk) 20:58, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Michael! Actually, the problem right now is that the text here is copyrighted and can't be used here. You're welcome to rewrite the article in your own words though. Otherwise, you can check out this link that explain how you can officially allow Wikipedia to use the text. In my opinion, we'd all be better off if you just rewrite it in your own words. I'll be around so feel free to ask questions here if you have them and I'll do my best to answer them. OlYellerTalktome 21:00, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Also, we'll have to make sure that the group can be included. It has to be considered notable by this guideline. Being as old as it is, I imagine that won't be a problem but it would be helpful if you know of some news articles that have written about the group (more than just a mention). Hi there!

I actually personally wrote the Brownbrokers blurb that is on the Department's website. As the Chair of the organization, the website materials are my job.

Is this enough? Who would I need to obtain permission from to use those words?

For the procedure, please see this link. It explains what you need to do to let Wikipedia use your text. On another note, please sign your comments on Wikipedia talk pages by typing four tildes ~~~~. This will automatically add your username and a timestamp for references. De728631 (talk) 21:10, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately not Mike. I'm confident that we can take care of the copyvio issue quickly (an admin won't delete it while we're doing so). OlYellerTalktome 21:17, 24 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've sent the email in as requested with the format from the page above.

Hope this works!

Michael

I have removed many of the unnecessary external links. Please let me know what else I need to do in order to prove the he notability of this article's subject and have the external links issue removed from the page.

External Links[edit]

Are references considered the same as external links? Should I reference less?

Charliehertz (talk) 20:59, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, completely different. Add all the references you'd like. You can read more about external links at WP:EL but there should never be an external link in the opening of an article and basically never in the body itself. If it's in a reference, that's different as the link will be contained in the reference section for people who wish to read the reference (assuming it's available online). Neutrality Assessment[edit]

I am done editing the page and feel that it is ready for a neutrality assessment. Many thanks for your time and work!

Charlie

Hey Charlie. I alerted other editors that the page needs assessing but it doesn't look like anyone has been available yet. I'll check it today and either remove the tag, edit the content and remove the tag, or list areas that need improvement. OlYeller21Talktome 17:23, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think this actually looks pretty good at a first go-over. I will take a closer look at it later, but I would initially suggest trimming the Past Productions section to just a few highlights, or possibly just linking to a list elsewhere. A13ean (talk) 22:23, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also I don't think the first paragraph in the Leadership section is notable, and the second could probably be worked in elsewhere. A13ean (talk) 22:25, 5 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your advice. I have made all of the edits according to your suggestions, including eliminating the Leadership section (working a little in elsewhere) and significantly trimming down the past productions section and adding a link to theacomprehensive list elsewhere. Is there anything else I should do to have the COI issue resolved?
