Talk:Check hook

The first time I ever read about the 'check hook' it was in a New York Times article of 27 September 1988. In this article, in paragraph 15, Roy Jones Jr mentions the punch in his recent win over Michal Franek at the Seoul Olympic games. To quote Jones in the article:

I call it my check-hook, Jones said. I check to see if he's there, then I throw it.

Neither Jones nor the article mentions a pivot following the hook, nor was Jones particularly known for this sort of pivoting manuever throughout his career, neither amateur nor professional.

I suppose there is an earlier reference to the punch than this, or shall we credit Jones with inventing it?

If so, on closer review of Mayweather-Hatton, can we credit Mayweather with throwing it?
