Source?[edit]

"Crixus had fought for the Allobroges against the Romans and had been captured. . . . In several early engagements, his company of Celtic gladiators changed the tide of battle by attacking weak points exposed by the slave army." This is news to me, and I can't find any such statements in the works of the Roman historians. Can we have a source, please? Tom129.93.17.220 (talk) 21:44, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. As a matter of fact non of the sources connect Crixus to the Allobroge nation at all. The Allobroges enjoyed peace with Rome from 121BC and 65BC. Since Crixus' died in 72BC its virtually impossible for him to have been captured by Rome while fighting for the Allobroges. The word "German" as well as all the geographic and ethnic connotations that come with it don't enter Roman lexicon until 20 years after Crixus' death. So how is it that "German Tribesmen" show up in Crixus' army? Did they teleport? Or are they merely time travelers? The only accounts regarding Spartacus or Crixus having "Germanic" auxiliaries were written nearly a hundred years after their deaths and all accounts that were contemporary regard their forces being made up of cosmopolitan-Runaway slaves. Whatever the case the statement that Crixus "used his Germanic infantry to soften up the Romans before committing his elite Celtic gladiators" isn't reflected in any of the sources listed. Article could be beefed up[edit]

I just also recently visited Gannicus' article, and was surprised to find that the article was quite short, as to my dismay is the same with Crixos. Two great warriors of history who seem to have either eluded history or aren't getting their fair shake on Wikipedia, anyways I am going to keep my eyes open for any WP:RS that could give some notable accounts of Crixus. --MaximusEditor (talk) 10:09, 12 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
