"Cruel Summer" is a promotional single.[edit]

On June 17, 2020, "Cruel Summer" was made available to US contemporary hit radio and hot adult contemporary radio.^[1] On the promotional single section, it is clear that a song that is made available to airplay is now classified as such, without needing an indepedent digital release. Oh, well, I'm not interested in creating an account. I'm only concerned with multiple reliable sources, and not just one primary source. Plus, concensus should be achieved by multiple editors, not just you and me. Please be patient. There's no hurry. Furthermore, AllAccess alone isn't enough to say it's a single/promo single. Every case is unique. All of Lover's singles (ME!, YNTCD, Lover and The Man) have been referred to as singles by reliable publications. "The Archer" has been particularly distinguished as a promotional single by Swift herself and of course by reliable music sources. What makes "Cruel Summer" different? Plus, it doesn't fall in either of the two categories. None of the media outlets refer to this song as a single or a promotional single. ℛonherry☘ 12:09, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In discussion of "Message in a Bottle" I proposed using AllAccess' "Cool New Music" date as a release date for this single. This section of AllAccess is also a source for various Dua Lipa singles (e.g. "Hallucinate"), plus it comes from AllAccess which is agreed to be a reliable source. However I do understand your concern since neither Swift nor Republic did not say anything about this song's release, so I stuck with your opinion - we need more people to participate in this discussion or maybe "Cool New Music" section of AllAccess should be even discussed on Reliable Sources Noticeboard. infsai (talkie? Songwriting credits[edit]

I think the songwriting credits should be divided between Lyricists and Composers since we have the audio recordings from Lover Secret Sessions confirming the songwriting process, so the credits should look like this: Lyricist: Taylor Swift Composers: Taylor Swift Jack Antonoff Annie Clark I also think this part from her talking about the song should be added: "So, this has some of my favorite lyrics in it, and it was so fun to write this. Jack and Annie [Clark] did the track and a lot of the instrumentation and I did the topline in whatever language that is. A topline is all the notes and the lyrics you hear. So whatever you would sing, that is what I wrote on this. It was just so fun to write this one and I really love this one. Jack and I like to do ranting bridges.
