Was Mel Lastman a notable furniture salesman?[edit]

In Ontario, he definitely was, for many broadcast years. But this is a global encyclopedia, so I get why Folengo might not remember that catchy classic campaign slogan at all. Not looking to fight about it, just bringing it up for editors of all nations to consider, if they want. InedibleHulk (talk) 00:42, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Well, on that "global" scale, I've honestly never heard of him. I'm assuming, then, that he was at least famous in the annals of American TV advertising. I'm neutral, after all that. Or Canadian annals? Ref (chew)(do) 07:06, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ontarian chronicles, technically. InedibleHulk (talk) 07:47, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Who? Editrite! (talk) 20:59, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We could ask that of mostly everybody here, actual world fame is nearly impossible. But Mel Lastman has a bluelink, and part of it is devoted to his not-quite-standalone furniture chain, which millions of people have heard about, repeatedly, over time. So now that you're up to speed, whatcha gonna do? InedibleHulk (talk) 21:46, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Furniture salesmen are a dime a dozen, even ones that advertise. The world is full of salesmen, furniture or otherwise, but that doesn't make them notable, irrespective of whether they have an article (usually one person's opinion). However, I admit in the Wikipedia world it does. As for the flawed premise that Wikipedia is about (world) famous, as you put it, it's not. It's about someone (or something) who is notable or noteworthy in their field of expertise or endeavor, or possibly beyond, but not necessarily famous. For example, how many Nobel or Pulitzer Prize winners have you heard of, if you get my drift? Editrite! (talk) 02:37, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Drakeo the Ruler[edit]

He died on December 18th according to Rolling Stone:[1]. 2601:18C:8B01:EE40:0:0:0:6A86 (talk) 15:29, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

According to the source, he was stabbed Saturday night (18th) and attended to by paramedics at 8:40pm that night. It then says he died "later". There's no current way of knowing whether "later" was that day (18th), or if he survived into the next day (19th).  Not done. Ref (chew)(do) 22:11, 19 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It says he was killed late Saturday night. InedibleHulk (talk) 08:21, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
"The rapper’s death is the second tragic event to occur at a Live Nation-organized festival in as many months...". InedibleHulk (talk) 08:31, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Who? I don't think he qualifies for front page inclusion. I asked many of my younger friends who listen to that kind of music and they had no clue who he was. Notable for his cause of death, but nothing else. Antiwesley (talk) 06:48, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, editors here have little sway with what gets posted through "In the news", whose content goes through scrutiny here. For example, the subject's entry. Wyliepedia @ 14:15, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think we need to have some more clarification for next years lists in terms of if someone has died or not ( if we encounter something like this again). I have never heard of this "notable" person in my whole life. I am not here to get on someone’s nerves, just offering my insight. Regards, KNOWKING4298<> (talk) 18:43, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know anyone listed on the page? I know of maybe 5 people out of 800 every month. That doesn't mean anyone is not notable enough to be here. Wyliepedia @ 21:32, 25 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if someone has their own article in Wikipedia and they die, they have a right to an entry here. One merely waits for the possibility that the article might get deleted for the entry to be removed. Drakeo the Ruler has his own entry, so I would have thought the tail end of this discussion was completely moot and the question of his inclusion inarguable. Ref (chew)(do) 21:43, 26 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello all, he died in the evening of December 25 (not December 26), according to what his son say to Radio-Canada [2]. Your source, Deadline Hollywood, didn't know yet the day he died. Thanks. --Danielvis08 (talk) 10:09, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

 Done, although you could've moved him yourself. Wyliepedia @ 10:16, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That source when translated comes off all over the place. It also mentioned Christmas Eve at one point. Regardless I’m moving him back to the 26th as his publicist states here. Rusted AutoParts 15:58, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I notice that the Radio Canada source quoted to start with above was updated at "15 H 00" ("3:00 p.m.") today (27th), and it removed any mention of a day/date of death. His article goes with 26th and so do we currently. Ref (chew)(do) 17:03, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Radio-Canada didn't removed the mention of the day of his death. It updated it. It says that his son Emile told Radio-Canada that he died on the evening of Christmas in a lodge at Berthier-sur-Mer in the Chaudières-Appalaches (mort le soir de Noël dans un chalet de Berthier-sur-Mer in french). --Danielvis08 (talk) 18:22, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also see the update from Deadline Hollywood [3]. He passed away December 25 (like Radio-Canada say) and found the following morning. --Danielvis08 (talk) 18:36, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is more a Deadline inference than concrete DOD. Specifically it's worded as "it's considered likely", that isn't anything substantive. Regardless, the CNN citation specifically states his publicist told them he died Sunday. Rusted AutoParts 18:45, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gary Beikirch's job[edit]

While he was generally a soldier, it seems he was more importantly a combat medic. Per that article, it's not a rank or buzzword, but a specialized line of work. And per his article, he received his Medal of Honor for medically treating wounded soldiers during combat. I don't think I need to ping you, Ref, so I'll just ask you to reconsider. Everyone else, consider if needed. InedibleHulk (talk) 21:59, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I go with soldier, plain and simple, and only edit once for such an insignificant part of an entry. Let others change it back or indeed think up a new buzzword set - it's not something I'd ever risk edit warring over. Carry on. Ref (chew)(do) 22:06, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Again, it's not a buzzword, it's a career. Takes formal education to become and stay certified, not mere posthumous Wikipedian whim. If you think his award-winning and life-saving role is insignificant, I'll revert you, assuming you don't care. InedibleHulk (talk) 22:22, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
A medic has achieved a medic's qualtifications, whether he practises them in a combat situation or in peacetime. Combining "combat" (a state of war) with a skill like "medic" immediately creates a buzz-term. But as I don't care it doesn't really matter. Ref (chew)(do) 23:58, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For the most part, that's true. But combat medics are also (at least basically) trained in the ways of war. I think you'd agree it's unusual for an NHS-contracted paramedic to know much about his or her service weapons, and even rarer to see one use them as needed to kill and die for Her Majesty. Or help dig a ditch. Pretty sure there're drugs civilians aren't approved to use on the public, too, under many health care systems. A terribly inconsequential distinction, perhaps, but a distinction nonetheless. I trust you realize the folly in omitting "combat" and leaving an unqualified "medic" behind. If anyone else thinks that prudent, could you at least parenthesize his notable camp (Dak Seang Camp) for some context on this decedent? InedibleHulk (talk) 00:36, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Syncing Deaths in 2021 with 2021 deaths category[edit]

With 2021 drawing to a close, I was wondering if anybody here would help sync these pages with those in the category of 2021 deaths (and related cats). I've taken care of the more unusual cases (e.g. deaths were reported here, but nobody ever bothered to edit the article), but that leaves a ton of deaths that aren't listed here. 753 by my count. I know everybody has lives, and this page can be hectic. But if people are willing to help, great! And once a group of entries are dealt with (generally added to page or removed from category), feel free/please do remove them from the list below. To be fair, some of those were created after their death, which is why they haven't been "synced". Wyliepedia @ 12:40, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This basically what I’ve been doing the past little while. I was able to purple link every listed name in each month so I could better see the non listed names when combing the category. At least there’s now a list of the actual missing names now. Rusted AutoParts 13:09, 3 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
