World War I monument[edit]

I'm not completely sure about the exact date of the unveiling of the World War I monument. This newspaper issue (pg. 314) mentions it only in May 1926, although the newspaper was published every Wednesday. It also includes the name of the stonemason (Mr. Irt from Štepanja Vas) and the cost (if this is the same monument). On the other hand, the date 26 April 1926 is mentioned on the monument itself. I suggest that the sentence is rephrased somewhat or that another source is used instead. --Eleassar my talk 13:52, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The date seems pretty explicit to me in the cited sources: "odkritju spomenika ... Slovesnost se bo vršila v nedeljo 25. t. m." ("unveiling of the monument ... The ceremony will take place on Sunday the 25th of this month"; Domovina 9(17) (23 April 1926): 3); "odkriju spomenika ... ki se vrši v nedeljo dne 25. aprila t. l." ("unveiling of the monument ... which will take place on Sunday the 25th of April this year"; "Odkritje spomenika padlim vojakom." Slovenec 54(91) (22 April 1926): 4.). Domoljub 39(20) (20 May 1936), p. 314 also confirms that "odkritje spomenika ... se je vrsilo kljub slabemu vremenu" ("the unveiling of the monument ... took place despite bad weather"). Doremo (talk) 16:01, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The last one was already mentioned above. As said, it's strange that they reported about this a month later, if the newspaper was published every Wednesday. It took them quite a long to report this news, if the unveiling truly took place on 25 April. OK; I see what you mean now. If the scheduled date was postponed, there must have been some kind of weather disaster that should have made the papers. I looked through Slovenec 26 and 27 28 April 1926 and didn't see anything unusual (I couldn't find Slovenec 27 April 1926). Domoljub has other news in that issue going back to early May (a theft on 2 May, a death on 8 May); maybe they were just late? I agree that it's peculiar. Yes, that's what I meant, that the event was postponed for a week or two. It's completely possible that they were just late, of course. However, it would be great if this can be verified e.g. in the book mentioned above or somewhere else. Slovenec (26 April 1926, page 3, column 2, "Nedeljske nezgode") reports nedeljsko krasno vreme ("beautiful Sunday [25 April] weather") in Maribor, which implies that the Domoljub report does not refer to April 25th. Doremo (talk) 17:24, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Franc Lokar death year[edit]

Is the suggested death year (1966) for Franc Lokar based on this reference? He's listed as a lawyer there. Savnik describes him as a "lovski pisatelj" (presumably, "writer of hunting stories"), perhaps the one publishing in Obisk in 1942 and 1943 (in COBISS). I haven't been able to locate anything else yet. There's also the poet France Lokar, but he was born in 1917. Doremo (talk) 02:59, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how many people with the name Franc Lokar were born in 1890 and died in 1966, but my presumption is that it was only one. I didn't add the information to the article though, because I don't have a reliable source for this. --Eleassar my talk 15:30, 25 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hard to say; Franc is such a common name, and there are still 362 people with the surname Lokar today in Slovenia, mostly in the Ljubljana region (SURS). More than one Franc Lokar born in 1890 wouldn't be that surprising. What is strikingly odd is that Živko Šifrer (the article contributor in Savnik's volume) felt that Lokar was important enough to include in the encyclopedia in 1971, and yet I can't positively identify the man anywhere. One Lokar Franc from Doblič pri Črnomlju was born on 18 June 1890.[2] It is most probably this one, which means that he died on 14 April 1966 in Ljubljana. Perhaps he moved there to study law or because he married Ivana Rode in 1926. There's also a Franc Lokar buried at Štepanja Vas along the west wall, Line BL, Grave 32. If I manage to make it out there to look for Ivan/Janez Irt, I can look for Franc Lokar too. Doremo (talk) 11:11, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
