Emo influences?[edit]

I believe this song to be in the emo genre, or at least have emo influences due to the pensieve lyrics and Sykes' emotional delivery; however I don't wish to change it as others may disagree.

I don't agree. Possibly Post-hardcore (which is a parent genre of Emo), but I'm even hesitant on that. I'm really unsure, a lot of there songs have very deep lyrics, though I'm not sure if that qualifies them for the Emo/Emocore/Post-hardcore genre.

It has citation, but doesn't sound emo at all. It sounds like alternative rock, and is written to be arena rock. --Quilladin206 (talk) 21:33, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Music Video[edit]

This needs a music video section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.174.138.220 (talk) 21:39, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Genre: Pop punk?[edit]

I do not think this sounds anything like pop punk. I realize what the citation says, but it still sounds nothing like pop punk. It also was called pop punk-leaning, which I don't know if that makes any difference. It sounds like a straight alternative rock song to me, and is confirmed to be written as an arena song. --Quilladin206 (talk) 21:33, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Since genres are often subjective labels, you'll need more than simply "this sounds nothing like pop punk". Considering the definitions of "leaning", I would argue that pop punk is supported, even if not quite as explicitly as the other genres, so I just went ahead and changed the genre order. Thanks for the information. I have a question, however: Does a source count if it's just someone talking about it? It wasn't mentioned to be pop punk by anyone in the band (as far as I know). Also, I'm not very experienced with editing Wikipedia, I am a fairly new user, so sorry if I'm being a bit of a nuisance. --Quilladin206 (talk) 03:09, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The band's opinion about the genre is something that might be interesting for us to relay to the reader, but it doesn't set the genre of the song. Rather, WP:SECONDARY sources such as reviews are what sets the genre for the song. Binksternet (talk) 06:04, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The band's opinion can set a genre for the song, but you are correct that the focus should be on secondary opinions. In other words, just don't make it the main focus. DannyMusicEditor (talk) 14:53, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
But the band's opinion on genre shouldn't affect infobox genres either, at least not generally. Kokoro20 (talk) 15:53, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Really? I always thought it was okay as long as it was listed after other sources.... DannyMusicEditor (talk) 21:45, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, that's what the consensus seems to be anyway, considering how Wikipedia shouldn't be focusing on first-party sources. Kokoro20 (talk) 03:22, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
