This is a well-established one-percenter club - though, this article is short and lacking. Please add to it to make it a worthy contribution to wikipedia.

Blog as reliable source?[edit]

Is "Crime Scene KC" a reliable source? It clearly states it is social media and a "blog".

"The Star encourages community engagement and discussion of these issues of crime and criminal justice. When presenting factual information, take care that it is accurate and cite and/or link to sources where appropriate. Although we are not responsible for the content of this blog ..."

See WP:SELFPUBLISH. Some blogs are actually written by professionals, and they have an editor checking for quality, such as the "blogs" at nyt.com. So they're not really "self published" because they have oversight. The problem with most personal blogs is that the author has sole control of the content: no editor, no fact checking, no organization behind them. In those cases, the only time a self-published source can be cited is when the blogger is talking about themselves, e.g. "Lindsey Lohan said on her blog she is out of rehab." Anything user generated like a blog, community forum, or an open wiki, is unreliable and shouldn't be cited.

It's probably not worth debating; most of the same information was published in the Kansas City Star itself, so there's no need to cite their crime blog. For now I cited the USDOJ directly on the case of William Eneff who admitted that transporting meth was a membership requirement. The KC Star stories are behind a paywall [23] but I should be able to get around that shortly via Highbeam or ProQuest or something.

It's pretty much a slam dunk: there are as many sources as anyone could ask for to prove that the Foresteros were a meth distribution ring first and motorcycle enthusiasts second.

Note that if this article is not going to be primarily about crime, then the article fails WP:Notability. Because notability is not inherited (see WP:NOTINHERITED), there's no reason to keep this article just because David Mann was a member. The only reason this article can exist on Wikipedia is because there are several news stories about the El Forasteros, and all of thoese news stories are about crime, not toy runs. Either this article is about crime, or there shouldn't be one. That goes for almost all outlaw motorcycle club articles, with only a couple exceptions. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 20:13, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
