Assess : newly added and existing articles, maybe nominate some good B-class articles for GA; independently assess some as A-class, regardless of GA status.
Cleanup : * Sport governing body (this should-be-major article is in a shameful state) * Field hockey (History section needs sources and accurate information - very vague at the moment.) * Standardize Category:American college sports infobox templates to use same font size and spacing. * Sport in the United Kingdom - the Popularity section is incorrect and unsourced. Reliable data is required.
* Fix project template and/or "to do list" Current version causes tables of content to be hidden unless/until reader chooses "show."
I notice that someone has been changing the order of teams in the Rugby Union Six Nations results from the proper order in which Dale Arnett and myself put them (always home team first, then the visitors) to "winning team first" at wherever the game was held. Note that this practice is normally applied only to American sports. For rugby, football (soccer), etc, worldwide the order is ALWAYS home team first; this makes mention of where the game was held unnecessary. -- Arwel (talk) 18:17, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This is an article that puts together results from different sports played at different countries. The conventions of writing scores varies from sport to sport and from country to country. People who read this article may not be aware of this and could get easily confused, so I think a uniform writing style is needed here.--Nitsansh 00:37, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't. I wouldn't dream of editing all the American Football scores so that their format is consistent with pretty much all the other sports played worldwide, and I would hope that other editors would respect the traditional ways other sports present their results, too. For rugby and soccer, unless something unusual happens, there's no need to say the match was played "at x." because everyone who follows the sport knows which stadia are normally used for international matches. That said, today's Six Nations rugby match between Ireland and France is noteworthy because it is the first time the GAA have ever allowed Croke Park to be used for a "foreign" (non-Gaelic) sport, while Lansdowne Road is rebuilt. -- Arwel (talk) 01:33, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You should never assume that people who read this page are regular followers of the sport in question and know its particular buzzwords. In North American sports, when scores are organized by home-and-away as opposed to winner-and-loser, the home team is always listed second. That's because in baseball, the home team always bats second. I personally prefer that system to always putting the winner first, but it obviously would not work for European sports. So it would be hard to use a single system without violating the standard scoring practice of one set of sports or another. -- Mwalcoff 02:21, 16 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sporting events on the main In the News Page[edit]
It seems that most of the time a sports related event is listed on the main page, it is always discussed as to why it is there. Even more so with American sporting events. The Super Bowl has came under redicule most recently, that is the biggest sporting event in the U.S. If that doesn't get included than not a whole lot of sporting events would get included. So I thought we should start a discussion on what sporting events should automatically be added to the main page when they occur. I say lets not expect any of sporting championships to appear on ITN. Perhaps the "Big 4 leagues in North America should appear; for European sports the intercontinental competitions (UEFA CL, H-Cup) should appear, world championships of major team sports should, too. I think for Golf, you should add the Canadian Open because it's part of the Triple Crown of Golf (Tiger Woods claims it). For Tennis, the Super Series of Tennis events should also be included. (the tier below the four majors). For Ice Hockey, the World Cup of Hockey should definitely be included, along with the U-20 World Juniors, and annual World Championships, and Women's World Championships. For Cycling, the World Cup should be included.
OK, Ccccccccccc'suggestions are good for the portal page, but for the main page, only the pinnacle of a major sport should get there. --HowardtheDuck 04:29, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
