• Among the chosen symbols, which took three years to analyse, the citizens manifested more skeptical about the new flag proposal, defending that the country should adopt an exclusive flag, which is not the case of the one that has been chosen, since it is very similar to the flags of several countries and is not exclusive in terms of colours. During the phone-in session, callers said things such as "You deputies (MP's) will not copy a flag from other countries (...)".

• As regard the similarity with the flag of Costa Rica, the PLD deputy (Manuela Santana - my note) explained that the commission did not define criteria for the public contest from which they got the chosen proposal, allowing contestants to design their flags as they pleased. "That is why we did not have a lot of choice", she said.

Slow motion edit war

There seems to be a slow motion edit war on this page where one or more anonymous editors (IPs are mostly similar) are attempting to claim that the "proposed flag" is the country's actual flag without citing any sources. Some of us doing RC patrol have been reverting these edits as unsourced changes, but it would be great if someone with knowledge of this subject could improve the sourcing of this article and clarify what truth, if anything, is behind these claims. Relationship with the USSR flag?

The leed postulates a relationship between the Flag of Angola and the USSR Flag:

"It features a yellow half gear wheel crossed by a machete and crowned with a star, chosen to look similar to the Emblem of the USSR flag."

I am not sure if is the star that is supposed to look similar to the USSR Flag or the entire emblem of the Flag of Angola? The sentence is ambiguous.

Also, I don't think the sentence is true in any interpretation. If it is true, could someone please provide a credible reference AND explanation. I don't see why the USSR should have inspired the Angolan flag. If true, it needs to be explained in the article as it is a controversial claim.

My best guess is that the Emblem on the Flag of Angola is inspired by the Emblem of Communism and in this respect, the star is inspired by the Red Star. That would be the most obvious and straightforward explanation. (See also the pages Hammer and sickle and Communist symbolism)

Color Sourcing

The color section has no listed source, which wouldn't be remarkable except that the colors are noticeably different from the IOC 2012 supplement that is used as a source for so many other articles (Bangladesh citation 10). LOC2012_ITR2101_Flags_Manual_Supplement.pdf, on page 12, puts the Pantone colors as 186 C (red) and 109 C (yellow). Vollink (talk) 02:02, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

I recently came across a new source for the colors of the Angolan flag, Symbols Nacionais da Republic de Angola: Manual de Normas Gráficas e Protocolares from 2011 which defines the colors differently by the Angolan government. It gives Pantone, CMYK, and RGB specifications for the national flag, the national emblem, and the Presidential flag.The red is PMS (Pantone Matching System) 186C, the yellow 116C and the black Process Black.
