I am really glad to see this article. I think it was long overdue. --Westwind273 (talk) 23:33, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Westwind273! Happy to hear you like this article. I've recently tried to develop it to make it more comprehensive, and would appreciate any suggestions you might have to reach that goal. Would be glad to collaborate as well! Jadedhippo (talk) 02:37, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
One thing that came to mind is that the current Criticism section approaches criticism of friend-shoring from the perspective of free trade. But it seems to me there are also probably reliable sources that would criticize friend-shoring from the "Buy American only" (i.e. more protectionist) perspective. In other words, friend-shoring gets criticism from both sides. --Westwind273 (talk) 18:54, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing to keep in mind: What is this article's relationship with the "Offshoring" article? I imagine some people will argue that friend-shoring should not be a separate article, but rather a section within the Offshoring article, similar to the Re-shoring section in that article. My personal view is that in the long-term there should be both; this Friend-shoring article should be expanded, but there should also be a brief section in the Offshoring article describing Friend-shoring, with a link to this article for more information. --Westwind273 (talk) 18:59, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for your feedback, @Westwind273! I'll consider your suggestion for the criticism section and do some research in that regard.
You also make a good point in your second message. It seems to me that this topic satisfies the criteria in WP:GNG, so I believe that warrants having its own standalone article. Additionally, WP:PAGEDECIDE states that if creating a single page for many similar notable topics (in this case, offshoring, reshoring, and friendshoring) results in an unwieldy article, it is appropriate to add links to the individual articles in the article for the broader topic. I took a look at the offshoring article and feel that if we make friendshoring solely a section within it, it will get "lost" amongst all the other information. I agree that a friendshoring section should be added to the offshoring article that gives a brief overview of the topic and its relation to offshoring, and we can continue to develop this article for greater depth. I think that should satisfy those who might argue this topic should not have a standalone article. Jadedhippo (talk) 02:24, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with all you said. It kind of begs the question of whether Re-shoring should also be a separate article. There may be some debate ahead in this regard. Westwind273 (talk) 01:00, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I believe the friendshoring article is in a state where it is viable as a standalone article, although there is certainly room for further contributions and improvement. Following the logic above, it would make sense to create a standalone article for reshoring, but we need to ensure the article adds value past what is already mentioned in the offshoring article.
