Just what does "several chapters longer than most of the time" mean ?[edit]

I am approaching this as if I do not know the lingo for this particular era of film.

CURRENT TEXT: 'In its original form, this serial comprised 20 chapters and was 40 reels long, several chapters longer than most of the time. It is a lost film.[1][2]'

Replacement with the following plus a question:

'In its original form, this serial is comprised of 20 chapters in 40 reels with some chapters'

What exactly is 'several chapters longer than most of the time.' ? Does that mean that some "chapters" which ordinarily are "X" reel(s) are in effect a subchapter of the serial with additional releases in that series of productions? Or the release has more reels than what is ordinary for the series?
