I think this article keeps saying Gustave Is rumoured to x and has practicaly no reliable data making it look like folklore.

Is Gustave alive or not?

Someone who knows what's going on should clarify if he's alive or dead, as the intro says he's alive... while the second section says he's presumed dead. That's really encyclopedia quality continuity there....

As of April 2007, Gustave is alive. This has been reported by National Geographic http://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/news/gustave-primeval/article.html

Since there is no hard evidence the subject is deceased, we cannot assume its life has ended. Size

But, regarding his size, I grant you that 20 feet may be on the low side for him, but there is no way he is 30 feet. Were he to have this size, he would easily be the largest crocodile in modern time. And he would make his species, the Nile crocodile, the largest living reptile, ahead of the saltwater croc. I'd suggest we say 20-23 feet. That still puts him on par with the largest living saltie

DinoJones 00:18, 22 October 2007 (UTC)1 ton is FAR too low of a weight estimate for Gustave. There have been plenty of 16 foot Nile and Saltwater Crocodiles that have weighed in at around 1 ton. Gustave would be closer to 3,000 to 4,000 lbs.

No offense who ever you are but Gustave is not 23 feet long and he is not 22 feet long he is 20 feet long I don't know why you people keep confusing this. Even the largest Nile crocodile on record which was 21 feet long doesn't approach that. Although your right about the saltwater crocodile being 23 feet long although the largest based from a skull would have been a few inches longer than 23 feet.

The claim ... in 2004 he was estimated to be 66 years old, 27 feet (8.2 m) in length and to weigh around 2.5 tonne, making him the largest confirmed crocodile ever seen in Africa seems highly dubious.

  I saw the PBS show, and the croc they depicted was considerably longer than 21 feet.

The article on the Nile crocodile states: Males usually weigh about 500 lbs (225 kg), but very large & old specimens can reach up to 2000 lbs (909 kg). The largest accurately measured male was shot near Mwanza, Tanzania and measured 6.45 m (21.3 ft) and weighed approximately 1,090 kg (2,400 lb). "Gustave" - if he actually exists - cannot weigh two-and-a-half times as much. The same goes for his length: very nearly 6 feet longer than the largest specimen ever measured? well actually if you watch the video on him they say that he's never been captured or measured so his actuall size is unknow. and i dont think anyone has gotten close enough to see difference between 20, 21 or 22 feet. and his last sighting was in 2008 so he could be longer than 23 feet (record) by now.

~ 23 feet+? I doubt it the record is 21 feet and most niles caught in the wild measure 10-14 feet some exceed 17 feet and some freaks will hit 20 feet but its *VERY rare*. Maybe in the inaccessible parts of the african rainforests and swamps there are larger specimens perhaps 30 feet or longer.

this croc is still out there and even has a documentary and a horror movie made about it....and we don't have one picture?

There are a couple on the web. Feel free to google some up and add them yourself.

Not sure if this helps, but there is a video of Gustave on Youtube.com. You simply have to type in "Giant Crocodiles" in the Search bar, and the video should be near the top of the list.

The obvious error about Gustave must be corrected. The article says Gustave is 6.70 meter long. Towards the end of the write-up, the saltwater croc is given as 7.0 meter long with a note in brackets "a meter longer than Gustave." Weight

This topic is very interesting. The weight of Gustave, just by viewing a number of videos, is clearly in excess of 2000 pounds. This is an exceptionally large Nile crocodile which typically are not as heavy as Australian salt water crocodiles which can go to 3000 pounds or more. I believe the estimated weight of Gustave should indicate "in excess of 1 ton" at least. The description of "around 1 ton" doesn't do justice to this massive animal. He probably is around 2400 pounds in my estimation.

More Information needs to be Added

This article is way too short and needs information on Gustave's history including sightings, attacks, and other important information.
