Merge proposal[edit]

In accordance with [1] the Wikipedia notes on writing about settlements, one of the recommendations is that, in order to reduce the number of stubs, villages and other settlements within a civil parish should be in one article. Hence the proposal, since Hammerwood settlement is part of the civil parish of Hartfield; this included in that article will reduce the East Sussex stubs. This article concerns the country house rather than the hamlet. As it is a grade 1 listed building it should have an independent article. Removing tag. Zeimusu | Talk page 21:20, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe it is silly to merge it with Hartfield as it is actually part of Forest Row. It should not have an independant article because the 1500 acre estate used to include the whole village. (talk)

It should be kept as an independent article - research by the County Archivist leads to the conclusion that it was a hunting park from Mediaeval times of Royal and or ecclesiastical origin. The restoration is more than the rebuilding of stone and plaster: the owners' ethos is that buildings which are part of the national heritage should be open to the public, fulfilling roles of education and enjoyment.

Unverified claims[edit]

Now it is nearly completely restored but the dining room purposely remains derelict to remind people of how the whole house was.

(A quick look at the website shows an attempt to raise money to restore this room.)

But Led Zeppelin, who were engaged in America completely forgot that they owned it.

Category[edit]

@Zadradr: Hammerwood Park isn't in either the town or parish of East Grinstead but it is in the parish of Forest Row [2] I can't fine any evidence suggesting its in East Grinstead. You pointed out the nearest town is East Grinstead but that's near not in and we generally don't categorize by merely being near unless there's a strong connection as such categorization would be arbitrary.
