I am not familiar with this period of Orcadian history, but initially I can see no evidence that this individual was ever Earl of Orkney. He is mentioned as a son of Harald Maddaddson in the OS, but not as earl so far as I can see, and he does not seem to be mentioned by Thomson (2008) or Muir (2005).
