place of birth

Swank's birthplace is listed as Lincoln, NE and also Bellingham, WA. Some sites say she was born in Lincoln and grew up in Bellingham. Others quote her as saying she's a "midwest girl." See: http://www.geocities.com/jodel552002/hilaryswank/main.html and http://www.tiscali.co.uk/entertainment/film/biographies/hilary_swank_biog.html maltmomma 16:07, Jun 6, 2005 (UTC)

67.174.53.235 added the following to the main article, which seems to be a good topic for dicussion, but not encylopedic:

There is some debate over where she was born, but it was Washington. She said she was born in Nebraska in order to get the part in "Boys Don't Cry", because that was where the main character was born.

In an interview in Interviu Magazine (October 2004), she says that she was born in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Birth announcement in the Lincoln newspaper reports the birth of a girl Swank on Jul 30, 1974 in Lincoln General Hospital. (ancestry.com) Questors 02:40, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Spanish and Native American?

Does anyone have a REALLY, REALLY good source for this? Like a REALLY in-depth interview or profile? It's just that I'm certain this originated on the IMDB, and then got copied around the net like wildfire. IMDB profiles have gotten really lazy in fact-checking, and dozens of pieces of info like the "Spanish and Native American descent" thing have been proven wrong. I think this might be another one. Vulturell 04:45, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

How and when was the Spanish and Native-American thing proven wrong?

It was never proven wrong - I said similar bits of trivia relating to actors' ancestry from the IMDB have been proven wrong. The problem with this one is that there seems to be no first-hand source - like an interview with Swank or something like that - where she mentions her ancestry. Vulturell 21:18, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Of her four grandparents, two seem to have German names (Swank and Obenour). Her maternal grandfather Clough's parents were from IA or Missouri for a coupple generations and Ohio and Maine before that. The name Clough is English. Hilary's maternal grandmother was born in California as were her parents and grandparents. She was of Hispanic ancestry. Questors 03:02, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

More information about Hilary's parents and family can be found in an official Iowa State Senate resolution here: http://coolice.legis.state.ia.us/Legislation%5CResolutions%5CIntroduced%5CSR16.html Hillary received lots of press in the Mount Ayr Record News (local newspaper) around the time when "The Next Karate Kid" was filmed.

That picture is not her. It should be removed. On the Conan O'Brien show on January 12th, she said she was from Nebraska.

Personal Life

The bit about fruits in New Zealand sounds about as significant as a traffic violation. It's vaguely fun trivia, but it says a lot more about customs in New Zealand than Hilary Swank herself. I say it's not encyclopedic and should be removed.

Is there a better source for the $3000 payment for "Boys don't cry"? She was a seasoned actor by the time she made that movie and $75 a day is way less than union scale. I have friends in the acting business and have a hard time fathoming a beginner working for that kind of money, much less the "Next karate kid" and single mother of "90210". Furthermore she had a major role and a nude scene in that film, something that agents use to extract more money from the producers. Perhaps the origin of the story is that after taxes, overdue union and agent fees all she took home was $3000. Also notice that at a rate of $75 a day this implies 40 shooting days with her on the set. This sounds high (Clark Gable had 71 shooting days for the epic "Gone with the Wind"). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.235.192.62 (talk) 14:04, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Jacqueline Kennedy??

The source provided for the comment about her appearance being similar to Jacqueline Kennedy does not include that information. It's kind of an odd piece of information to begin with. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jcarver1988 (talkcontribs) 04:26, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Birthplace

Hilary Swank's birthplace should be stated correctly in this article. Lincoln, Nebraska may not be the correct birthplace. She may have been born in Washington, even though she may have fibbed about it. See an ongoing discussion about this at WP:BLPN.Anythingyouwant (talk) 05:10, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

Hilary Swank stated on her appearance on Inside the Actors Studio that she was born in Lincoln (can be viewed here). Is there a particularly believable source that contradicts this? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 11:36, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes.[2] The interview that you link to aired November 9, 2009 and it is very convincing. I'm not sure whether we're supposed to consider it, however, given that YouTube may not be a reliable source. But I will not revert your article edit.Anythingyouwant (talk) 20:33, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
That is just a newspaper reference. Well, not "just", but in this situation I wouldn't see a newspaper mention or two as topping her own word (unless they produced a birth certificate or the like... long-form, of course). I saw that episode on television and Swank said the same thing. No body messed with the YouTube video. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 11:36, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
The clincher for me is that her parents were sitting right there. It's hard to believe she would have fibbed right in front of them. But the long-form vault copy of the bc would be helpful. :-)Anythingyouwant (talk) 18:24, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Mercury Levels

"Swank developed potential health problems through certain preparations for her roles, including elevated mercury levels in her body"

I do not understand what this means as there is no reference. Was this a contaminated diet she went on, poisonous makeup or some illness that introduced mercury into her body? 86.24.70.90 (talk) 12:41, 14 October 2011 (UTC) Moriarty

R/ABresnik

I restored the unsourced piece about R&ABresnik to the Amelia Earhart section (shifting it from the personal section and dropping the "relationship" mention). I was supporting the effort to include the interesting side-light rather than leaving it cut completely (as had been done) because it wasn't sourced. I Googled it and found nothing, but maybe someone can come up with a print source. If there's a verifiable personal angle, it could be reinstated in that section too. Meantime, I don't see how the bit as now constituted can do any big harm as a "cite-needed" piece. It doesn't sound malicious or made-up to me.

The original unsourced bit didn't say which Legoland they met at, so I haven't linked to the name (a dab page for several parks) in the article. If the specific park can be identified, obviously linked would be better. Swliv (talk) 23:11, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

Muscle?

The article states she gained 19 pounds of muscle. I doubt very much whether the type of tissue was determined. Not only is it questionable that the entire weight gain was of muscle tissue, but how would we tell the difference between simply eating more (water gain & digestive system contents) and actual tissue gain? Almost certainly this was not done. "of muscle" should be removed, unless valid scientific authority can be cited.72.172.10.182 (talk) 18:25, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
