World map of skin color distribution is inaccurate

I'm not an expert in skin color science but I believe this map grossly misrepresents the distribution of skin color, making it seems as though people's skin are lighter than it is. I understand that this map may have been generated from a historically influential set of data, but using the coloured in version with these supposed skin colors is frankly quite colorist.

First of all, I think a Mercator-like projection should not be used as it overemphasises the global north. Secondly, the colours seem to be wrong; at least to me. I do not have explicit sources, but one clear example of the map probably being wrong is the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia, whose population's skin colours are obviously not as depicted in the map.

If one must use the von Luschan's chromatic scale, I suggest that the map from its wikipedia page be used instead. Jiaminglimjm (talk) 21:21, 26 February 2022 (UTC)
