Unrelated to Jackie Stewart. Clarify?[edit]

Should this article be edited to clarify Ian was not related to Jimmy or his younger brother Jackie Stewart?

As all three were Scottish racing drivers born within 9 years of each other, and as all 3 even drove for Ecurie Ecosse at different times, I think this might be worth making explicit. Jmrichardson (talk) 16:35, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would say no; Jackie and Jimmy Stewart are brothers and it's acceptable for their articles to mention their relationship to each other, but I don't think you need to say 'X is not related to Y', just because Y is more well known than X and they share the same name. Interesting and noted - however: it is not just that three individuals share the same name, as I made clear above.

There were/are three Scottish racing drivers, born within 9 years of each other, all surnamed Stewart, all with their own WP entries. All three of them at once time drove for the same team - Ecurie Ecosse, a team which has its own Wikipedia article.

Two of these drivers (Ian and Jimmy - unrelated) drove for Ecurie Ecosse at the same time. Jackie - the younger brother of Jimmy, and by far the best known of the three - drove for EE just a few years later.

When I first noticed this, I immediately wondered whether Ian was a a third, eldest, Stewart brother of whom I'd never heard (despite being quite into motor racing). It took me some time to find a reputable external source confirming this was *not* the case - which i now have.

It therefore doesn't seem unreasonable to make this clarification - especially if there is no WP ruling against it. Even if in general, WP prefers this type of disambiguation to be minimised (and I take your general point) - I still maintain there might well be a case for making the situation clearer in this case.
