I highly doubt that the word "ükskül" would mean a place to cross a river. I do not speak Livonian but üks means always number one in Finnish, Estonian and other Finno-Ugrian languages related to Livonian. And so does the word kül means a village. Could someone check this Sutrop source, which claims that the word comes from "the ford or islet(s)". That sounds really weird. The original source can be found here (archive) in Estonian. I think according to this theory the second part of the Livonian word is supposed to be connected to the Estonian word koole meaning "ford (crossing)". 98.170.164.88 (talk) 08:15, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
